— Around this time I realized I needed to break away from my endless stream of characters. I wanted to try and fashion a world, instead of just aping things from the cultures I was immersed in. Rather than abandoning them completely I began to dissect, extract, and mine their parts. By the end of the decade these bifurcated pieces of id and ego had transformed themselves into strange landscapes. The lonely floating figure on an empty plane had been replaced by geometric flora and fauna, frolicking on patterned topography. But this world would have to be sacrificed if i wanted to build universes.
